Ugo Morelli, in Memoriam

The NEHRP "family" lost one of its patriarchal members on Wednesday, February 3, 2016. On that day, Ugo Morelli, longtime FEMA earthquake program manager, passed away. Ugo's obituary may be viewed online, Ugo Morelli Obituary.

Even following his retirement from FEMA, Ugo remained an active participant in NEHRP activities, including serving as a "pro bono" member of the NEHRP Program Coordination Working Group and continuing to provide wisdom and perspective. Ugo's commitment to earthquake safety directly or indirectly impacted almost all aspects of NEHRP for many years. In particular, he was most passionate about improving earthquake safety in existing buildings and working to improve the earthquake safety of the Federal building inventory.

The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute posted a memorial tribute to Ugo in its February 15 edition of its electronic newsletter, "The Pulse of Earthquake Engineering." That article may be viewed online, In Memoriam Ugo Morelli (1922-2016).

Ugo is simply irreplaceable—nothing more can be said.

Ugo is survived by his loving wife, Dottie, as well as the many members of his extended NEHRP family.
